I am looking to study engineering in UK. Can international student work and study side by side in UK? What are my chances of obtaining a job to sustain myself in UK?
It is possible to work while studying in UK for international students. International students studying in undergraduate degree level or above are allowed to work part time (up to 20 hours a week) during term time and full time during holidays in UK. However, it is very difficult to find work nowadays in UK.
It is very difficult to sustain your life just working part time in UK. At most, you can cover the living expenses but not the tuition fees working part time. Therefore, you must arrange sufficient funds from your home too. In addition, many international students have problems in their studies these days as they spend too much time working. Therefore, I personally recommend you not to work even part time if you really want to be a successful engineer in future.

You are allowed to work while studying if you study at a university or college that is listed on both the official UKBA Sponsor list and the list of ‘recognised bodies’.If you have student immigration permission that allows you to take employment, you can work up to 20 hours a week during term-time and full-time during your holidays (unless stated otherwise on your visa). You can also undertake an internship, but these are subject to restrictions. More information about these regulations and working in the UK can be found on the UK Council for International Student Affairs website.
