Question Description
What are the general requirements in American universities for Mechanical Engineering? What does an international student require to do Mechanical Engineering from Engineering Schools in USA?
Answer

The requirements to do Mechanical Engineering depend upon the university and level of study you choose. However, I’ll try to answer your question with general requirements for admission in most of the Mechanical Engineering schools in United States.

For Undergraduate level admission
To do B.E in Mechanical Engineering, students must have completed high school with Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry subjects. Students will require taking English language proficiency test which may either be TOEFL or IELTS. In United States, TOEFL is more preferable than IELTS. The TOEFL or IELTS score required for admission vary according to university. Sometimes, students may even be asked to do SAT for admission in undergraduate level.

For Postgraduate level admission
Most of universities ask for application with GPA of at least 3.00. Students will have to take GRE test in which minimum scores are generally: 400 – Verbal Section, 660 – Quantitative Section, and 4.0 – Analytical Writing. University may even ask to submit some letter of recommendations. Besides, students will also have to submit transcripts of previous studies and an essay for admission. For students with English as second language, English proficiency test is required. In most universities - 570 PBT, and 240 CBT – scores in TOEFL is required for admission.
