I have to give IELTS or TOEFL test to get admitted in any British or US or Australian or Canadian Universities. I am thinking to appear in one of this test. I want to know which of these two is easier.
I have appeared for TOEFL test couple of years ago and recently I have appeared for IELTS test. In my personal feeling IELTS test is the easier one. There are four modules in IELTS – Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking. The main challenge in IELTS test is the time pressure. Apart from it, there are 3 lengthy passages in reading modules – each with different topics. You will have tough time while reading because you have to complete about 40 questions within 60 minutes reading about 2200 to 2800 words. The main strategy you have to use is using the techniques of skimming and scanning. Also, listening is a bit challenging one as you have to fill up the answers at the same time while listening to the tape. You have to recognize the pronunciation by different accent like British, American, New Zealand, Australian and Canadian.
The advantage in IELTS is the writing and speaking modules. The writing module consists of two parts – Task 1 and Task 2. Task 1 is all about report writing seeing the graphs, table, chart, and diagram. There are some writing formats for writing report. It will not be difficult for you if you practice writing report couple of time. Task 2 consists of writing from the point of view or argument or problem solving. It will not be difficult for you as well if you practice writing couple of time considering some basic rules and norms. If you are fluent in speaking English, there will not be problem for you. Speaking test is conducted by the examiner. These examiners are helpful. They are just looking for you clarity and fluency in speaking English. They will not cross question you.
Regarding TOEFL, I have no good opinion. I feel every aspect in TOEFL. When I appeared for TOEFL test, it was computer based TOEFL test. It is not easy to stay continuously to computer for couple of hours. In my view, it will be better for you if you appear for IELTS test.

In my personal experience, IELTS is the easiest one. But TOEFL is recognized in most of the universities and colleges worldwide. Therefore, you should not decide which test to take on the basis of the easiest one. Instead, you should choose on the basis of which universities of which countries are you applying for.
