What is SAT or ACT test?

I am a Ugandan student. I applied in a certain college in USA and they are asking me for SAT or ACT results. I would like to know what they mean and how do I register for them and how?

SAT and ACT both are standardized tests that helps colleges to evaluate the quality of a student who applies for admission. Universities and colleges are found to accept ACT or SAT or both. Any of these tests is required compulsorily for admission into most of the colleges. These tests also help you to get scholarships.
