Process for obtaining French Student Visa

Iím from Detroit. Iím thinking of studying French Language in France. As an American student, do I need to obtain French Visa? If yes, what is the process to obtain it? What documents will I need and where must I apply for it? Please answer my question will all the information you think will help me in this process.
