Question Description
Does somebody know what is SEVIS? I am preparing documents to apply for F-1 Student Visa. I came to know along with visa application fee, I have to pay SEVIS fee as well? I do not know, what is SEVIS? Does anybody have answer to my queries? I'm Malaysian student and I intend to go to Florida Metropolitan Univerisity in USA.
Answer

SEVIS stands for Student and Exchange Visitor Information System. It is the internet-based database system that tracks and stores information regarding visa status and activities in USA of international student holding F-1 and J-1 Visa. This information is accessible to the Universities and USCIS and even to US embassies and consulates to get detail information about the international student's academic career in USA.

Currently SEVIS fee is US $100 which is to be paid either online or by mail. This fee is non-refundable even if the visa isn't issued. But students will not require paying it again if they apply for visa within 12 months of visa denial.
