Question Description
What happens if my F-1 Student Visa has expired? How to renew the expired F1 Visa? How to maintain the legal student status renewing the F1 Visa?
Answer

I think you can stay with an expired F1 visa in US until you maintain you status as a student there. Maintaining status of a student means enrolling into a college or a university. But remember, you need to have a valid I-20 which isn't expired.

Renewing a visa in United States isn't possible for F1 visa. If you wish to renew your visa, the only method will be to reapply for visa in your home country.
