Question Description
I'm from United States. I want to know if American students need a visa to enter Portugal with study purpose.
Answer

Students from United States don’t need to obtain a Portuguese visa before entering Portugal. They can stay up to three months in Portugal without visa but if their stay exceeds three months, they’ll have to obtain a student residence permit. To apply for student residence permit, students from United States will require following documents:

Completely filled and signed visa application form
One recently taken photograph for passport
A valid passport
Proof of sufficient funds to study and live in Portugal
Receipt of visa fee payment
Academic transcripts
Proof of enrollment in university or college in Portugal
