When can I start to work with settlement visa in UK?

I have applied for a UK settlement visa and I will be travelling to UK in Feb 09. Please let me know if I have to wait a few months before I start working or I can immediately start working?
As much I know, with a settlement visa you can work in UK as soon as you are there without any restrictions but I’m not sure if British Immigration and Labor Department has made any recent chance on their policies.
